Love know no bounds
15x18

I make, essentially, two different kinds of portraits, best describes as "simplified" and "detailed". Simplified portraits
work well for action or group images, such as the quilt above or this small wall hanging of a child with his pets. I can
incorporate images from separate photos into the same piece, even adjusting the scale if necessary.
Portrait quilts are made from photographs or drawings of people, animals or devotional images. If you have a studio photograph or copyrighted piece
of artwork
please! get permission of the artist first! Happily, snapshots work beautifully for these kinds of portraits, though. They often capture the
elements of personality that allow these works to shine. All of my portraits are somewhat stylized. They also tend to have an "iconic" feel to them,
which makes them perfect for religious imagery as well as capturing the dearest of memories.
Woodbeard

Detailed portraits are best for close-up and larger than life images. They work well for older faces and faces
with a lot of "character".
For either kind of portrait, profile or three-quarter face images produce the most effective quilts. This
particular quilt features my partner, George, who is definitely a character! and makes use of many leaf and
wood patterned fabrics to highlight his love of woodworking.
Honey, I Changed the Wallpaper Again!
120x120

An entire album of images can be made into a large bed-size quilt. This
particular quilt shows a rather non-traditional arrangement, with the images
inset in stylized computer screens (complete with embroidered icons) to
highlight one of the customer's personal interests.
The background includes both log cabin and rail fence patterns.
Although most people don't think of these as traditional quilts, they are made with the most
old-fashioned of methods, including templates and lots of pinning! They are fairly labor
intensive, so while I'm happy to work with a deadline, rush jobs just aren't feasible for this type
of quilt.
Living Every Moment
48x54

This triple portrait shows three children enjoying a spring day. The
background is quilted in early spring plants and insects.
